Brenton Bennett has been taking
scenic pictures for more than 40 years,
mostly in the western United States. At the age of 14 he published
a
photograph in a travel magazine, and since that time he has
continued to improve his photographic skills. He is pictured
here with his lovely wife
Kristine, who also enjoys photography. "Kristine really
enjoys taking
pictures of places that are important to us, as well as photos
of our family.
As we travel, she is very patient and understanding about
the amount of
time it takes to produce good landscape photographs."
He has also been an active amateur astronomer since building
his first
telescope with his brother Darrell at a very early age. This
hobby produced
an interest in astro-photography that continues to this day.
Brenton has darkroom equipment for developing and printing
black and white astrophotos as well as landscape and family
pictures. He explains the connection: "My work with astrophotography
increased my knowledge of both film and optics. As a result
I am determined to produce the sharpest possible photographs."
For landscape photography, Brenton uses a 4x5 field camera
and a 35mm Zeiss Contarex. He currently uses both Fuji Provia
and Velvia film, and Kodak Technical Pan for black and white
photos. With the development of digital scanning and printing,
the high quality and easily reproducible production of his
photographs for sale has become feasible. "The digital
process is wonderful, and the prints are truly of archival
quality, but these prints are produced to duplicate, not modify,
the original transparencies."
Brenton hopes you enjoy your visit to this gallery. "Photography
of nature
is very meaningful to me. The techniques and equipment allow
for
high-quality reproductions, but the most important aspect
is the sharing of
that special moment when light and landscape produce a beautiful
image
for us all to enjoy."
